In today’s increasingly complex work environment, studies have called political intelligence™ “the missing leadership competence” because the “traditional” skills of leadership are no longer sufficient to guarantee personal and organizational success. Today’s leaders need not only a keen awareness of their political landscape, but more importantly, the skills to maneuver effectively around political minefields using behaviors critical to getting things done in a positive way. This session will give you clarity on the types of political animals that exist within organizations and, using a proprietary diagnostic profiling instrument will help you to understand how to develop higher levels of political intelligence™.

Most organizations are finding it a struggle to scale coaching – moving beyond hiring external coaches. And a 2007 UK survey suggested that less than 25% of managers felt that coaching significantly influenced their effectiveness and impact. In this teleseminar, we will look at some of the factors that may be getting in the way of coaching flourishing.

A coach-approach to leadership increases the effectiveness of interactions with potential and current clients/customers, project teams, senior leadership, direct reports, career counselees, and other stakeholders. This session will introduce key coaching competencies that are essential for effective leadership in the executive ranks. Participants will take away practical insights to apply in their immediate interactions as leaders, executives, and coaches.

This teleclass will present the basics of Compassionate Communication, along with some live examples of how Compassionate Communication can support greater understanding in our lives. Compassionate Communication allows each of us to be fully responsible for our experience in relating to others, as well as allowing others to be responsible for their experience, without judgment, blame, shame or any other life alienating forms of communication. This way of living and communicating is based on the work of Marshall Rosenburg’s Non-Violent Communication.

This teleclass will introduce the fundamental principles of Human Dynamics and how it can be applied in the coaching/consulting relationship.Nine distinct human systems have been identified; five of which greatly predominate, and are the focus of our work. Each system is composed of basic organizing principles – mental, emotional, and physical. These have both a quantitative (personal) and a qualitative (transpersonal) dimension. Human Dynamics programs based on these new understandings are being applied in the fields of business, education, parenting, health care, and cross-cultural bridge building.

Robert will review the key distinctions that Flores and how these have informed the coaching field through ontological coaching, including the integrated framework of language,body, and history; moods and mood management; how action is a domain of coordination; the power of conversations and speech acts; embodiment and learning; and reconstruction of fields of discourse. Robert will trace how Flores built on the work of prior thinkers, including philosophers of language John Austin and John Searle, the biologists Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela, and continental philosophy, notably Martin Heidegger. Robert will also mention work done bytudents of Flores, and how the work is being extended.

To make sustainable shifts in our behavior and way of thinking, we have to “embody” new schemas. The path to achieving such embodiment is established through a series of recurrent practices of mind, emotions, language and body. This new embodiment is integrated by building new interpretations of meaning and future possibilities. It is this dynamic process which we will explore in the upcoming master class session.

In this call we will cover a basic introduction to the neurobiology of: • Safety and the “flight/fight/freeze” response, and how this plays out in the modern workplace • Status and inclusion as biological drivers of behavior in organizations • Learning and memory, particularly the kind of transformational learning our clients often seek from coaching • Human neurobiology and what it means for change at the individual and collective levels

As our world is growing more complex, is the thinking of coaches and leaders keeping up? An individual’s impact is based on their view of themselves, others and the world. These views determine thoughts, emotions and actions, and change naturally through life experiences. An individual can also choose to change their view, and this intentional approach is at the heart of transformational change. This masterclass will examine the relevance of the Buddhist view for coaches, and how the “MiddleWay” philosophy can inspire a new vision of transformational coaching for the 21st century.

Working from the insight that the only thing that liberates and encourages people’s capacity to listen is the experience of being listened to and heard themselves; we will engage in a conversation about the inner dimensions of listening. We will explore some of the distinctions that may be observed in experience between listening from the head, the heart, the body, and the soul.

This class explores basic principles related to the nature and process of change in living systems and assists practitioners in discerning and reflecting on their implicit models and theories of change and related assumptions. Different elements and phases of intervening into systems will be examined.

In this telebridge master class we will look in detail at the constraining forces that all top performers must master in order to excel. In western psychology these forces are often described as “resistance” or even “the saboteur.” We will distinguish some of the many faces of resistance: fear, telling long stories, getting lost in one’s own psychology, languishing in self-reflection and not moving towards action, defiance, offering a litany of reasons (even really good ones), cynicism or resignation. We will take time to examine via case examples the many kinds of resistance that surface during the course of a coaching engagement. We will look at what this points to about where a client is in their development, and then determine how to design best practice interventions to effectively move a client to the next level of performance.

Without clarity about this you have no mandate from which to “coach” (clearly an assertion, made for the purpose of consideration, rather than an assertion of truth value). We will then look into the nature of causality and change, exploring a proposed underlying structure of change and change process. In this consideration we will touch on relational domains of change, causality and learning.

This class will present several case examples of micro-observation that demonstrate (1) how to select high impact directly observable data, (2) how to analyze that data, using techniques like the Ladder of Inference and (3) how to discuss that data with your client in a way that best supports double-loop learning.

“Stages of development” is a Gestalt OSD “umbrella” concept that supports coaches to enhance their coaching capability and capacity. Specifically, they increase their ability to make better use of their own body of knowledge in the service of appreciating multiple realities and supporting clients to accelerate the process of change. This stage-of-development conceptual framework particularly brings coaches into awareness of an “I want/We need” paradigm as a fundamental dimension of individual and organizational life.
